Daniel Burgess began his journey with Chinese medicine, cosmology, and astrology in 2012, the year of the Water Dragon, studying under Liu Ming of Da Yuan Circle—a beloved and respected teacher of the Chinese cosmological and mantic arts. Over time, Daniel grew very close to Ming, seeing him not only as a teacher, but also as a friend and father figure. He devoted himself to Ming’s teachings, living with him until his passing in April 2015. During those final months, Daniel helped carry out Ming’s last wishes and supported the completion of his unfinished work—a responsibility that continued in the months and years after Ming’s death.
In 2019, Daniel chose to bring the depth of what he had learned into a healing practice, and enrolled in the Chinese medical massage (Tui Na) program at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. Here, he trained in Brian O’Dea’s Yin Style Tui Na, a deeply nourishing and restorative form of hands-on medicine.
In early 2020, Daniel joined Thuy in responding to a call for help from Diné family and friends affected by Covid-19 in the Navajo Nation. Since then, he has continued to return to the Navajo Nation in support of the Navajo Healing Project (NHP), whose current mission is to train Native practitioners in the cosmology and tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today, Daniel teaches Yin Style Tui Na to NHP interns both in the Navajo Nation and to a new local cohort comprised of several members from QT-Viet Cafe.
In 2021, Daniel began offering Tui Na massage and the beginnings of what would become 4 Animals Chinese Astrology readings to patients of BCA. Profoundly shaped by his years of study in the Chinese mantic and medical arts, Daniel aims to make accessible the wisdom, guidance, healing, and spiritual alignment available through the tools and practices of Chinese medicine and cosmology. He offers Tui Na Massage, 4 Animals Chinese Astrology, and BCA Feng Shui services.
